Doug McVay is a journalist, researcher, activist and speaker with a long history in drug policy reform. His personal BlueSky account is @dougmcvay.bsky.social. Doug has been active in drug policy reform efforts since organizing a NORML chapter at the University of Iowa in 1983. In 1984, he worked with the Oregon Marijuana Initiative on its petition drive and provided clerical, administrative and typing assistance to OMI's legal team for its case before the Oregon Supreme Court. Doug went on to work with the OMI/Ballot Measure Five campaign during the 1985-1986 election cycle as the petitioning coordinator and assistant director. He worked for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) as its Activists/Projects Coordinator from 1987 to 1990. In 1989, he co-founded the Cannabis Action Network (CAN).
Doug currently produces and hosts a weekly half-hour radio show called Century Of Lies, which is produced for the Drug Truth Network and distributed via the Pacifica Foundation Radio Network's Audioport service. He produces and hosts a monthly half-hour radio show called Free Culture Radio, which airs on KBOO Community Radio in Portland, Oregon and is also distributed via Pacifica. As a member of KBOO's Prison Pipeline Collective, Doug also occasionally hosts and produces installments of a weekly program called Prison Pipeline.
