In 2020, the FBI reports there were a total of 1,155,610 arrests for all drug offenses, of which 153,696 were for sale or manufacture of any drug, and 1,001,914 were for possession of any drug.

• Of the 153,696 sale/manufacture arrests in 2020, 47,380 were for heroin, cocaine, and their derivatives; 32,357 were for marijuana; 17,334 were for synthetic or manufactured drugs; and 57,781 were for "other dangerous nonnarcotic" drugs.

• Of the 1,001,914 possession arrests that year, 227,655 were for heroin, cocaine, and their derivatives; 317,793 were for marijuana; 40,446 were for synthetic or manufactured drugs; and 416,020 were for "other dangerous nonnarcotic" drugs.
